Create clear directory information for market traders

Describe recurring market locations, trading dates, stall identity and customer contact arrangements without presenting a temporary pitch as a permanent shop.

A market trader's business identity may stay the same while the place customers meet it changes from week to week. Local directory information needs to distinguish the trader, the market venue and the trading schedule. The profile should help someone find an actual trading day rather than travel to an empty pitch.

01 / 05Describe the business independently of the pitch

Use the trader's recognised trading name and explain the goods or services offered. Keep the venue name in the relevant location or schedule information instead of making it appear that the trader operates the entire market. If directory eligibility rules differ for temporary trading places, check those requirements before submitting a profile as though the stall were a permanent retail unit.

02 / 05Make recurring dates visible

State the normal trading pattern in clear language, including whether attendance is weekly, monthly or limited to selected events. Do not convert a monthly visit into a weekly opening schedule. Where dates change, point customers to a maintained calendar or official business contact. A schedule should tell visitors when the trader is present, not merely when the wider venue is open.

03 / 05Help customers locate the stall

Give practical arrival context such as the hall, market section or usual pitch area. Avoid a precise stall number if it changes frequently and cannot be maintained. A current photograph of the stall signage may help recognition. Keep the organiser's entrance address separate from a private storage or preparation location that customers are not expected to visit.

04 / 05Explain cancellations and enquiries

Outdoor trading may be disrupted by weather or an organiser's decision. Describe where customers should check attendance before making a special trip, without implying that every scheduled appearance is guaranteed. Use the trader's own enquiry route for stock or preorders. Do not direct customers to the organiser for questions only the individual trader can answer.

05 / 05Review each new venue relationship

When a trader adds another market, assess whether the directory supports multiple locations or whether the schedule belongs on the linked business page. Prevent old venues remaining listed as current after attendance ends. Keep an internal record of regular pitches and their approval contacts. That record helps editors distinguish an ongoing trading arrangement from a single event appearance.
